It's particularly convenient for travelers visiting Mombasa or Diani Beach — the park can be incorporated into a short bush-and-beach itinerary.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Animals move freely throughout the park, and your guide will adjust the route according to current conditions.
One of the most recognizable sights in Tsavo East is the park's reddish elephants. The elephants are not naturally red.
Tsavo's soil is strongly associated with the red coloration seen across the landscape. Elephants frequently cover themselves in dust and soil as part of normal behaviors such as dust bathing, which can give their skin a reddish appearance. This is one of the reasons photographers often look forward to seeing elephants in Tsavo East.
