Our story

How Tarec Gorilla Safaris began.

02
Mutabazi Moses, founder of Tarec Gorilla Safaris

Every great safari begins with a story, and so does ours. Tarec Gorilla Safaris was born from years of experience working within Uganda's tourism industry and a deep appreciation for the extraordinary wildlife that makes East Africa one of the world's greatest safari destinations. Our founder recognized that many travelers wanted more than a standard package holiday — they wanted authentic experiences, knowledgeable local guides, honest advice, and the chance to connect with Africa beyond the typical tourist route.

Starting as a small local company, we focused on personalized service rather than large volumes of bookings, believing every safari should reflect the individual traveler rather than a fixed itinerary copied for hundreds of guests. Over the years we've built trusted relationships with experienced ranger guides, carefully selected lodges, conservation partners, community organizations, and tourism authorities across Uganda and Rwanda — allowing us to create seamless experiences while supporting the communities that protect the landscapes our guests come to explore.

Our mission & values

Five values that guide everything we do.

04

Authenticity

We design every safari to reflect the real East Africa — its wildlife, landscapes, people, and cultures — avoiding rushed, impersonal itineraries in favor of genuine connection and discovery. See our special interest safaris.

Conservation

We partner with conservation organizations, follow strict wildlife viewing guidelines, and put a portion of every safari toward community and conservation projects. Read our responsible travel policy and learn about chimpanzee conservation in Uganda.

Excellence

From our first email response to the final airport drop-off, we strive for excellence in every detail of planning and guest satisfaction. Browse our safari blog for travel tips and inspiration.

Batwa community children

Community empowerment

We hire local guides, stay in locally owned lodges where possible, and support community tourism initiatives — including visits with Batwa communities. We believe that when local people benefit directly from tourism, they become powerful allies in protecting wildlife and natural habitats. Explore our group safaris to see how we involve local communities.

Integrity — we treat our guests, partners, staff, and communities with honesty and respect. Our recommendations are based on what is genuinely best for you, not on commissions or business arrangements. Why travel with us →
