Where to Trek

Where Do Gorilla Tours Take Place?

Uganda has two destinations where visitors can trek mountain gorillas.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi is Uganda's premier gorilla trekking destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park contains more than 20 habituated gorilla families spread across four trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo. The Experience

What Happens During Gorilla Trekking?

Every gorilla tour begins with a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers before visitors enter the forest.

Your Trekking Day

  • 7:00 AM — Registration and briefing at park headquarters
  • 8:00 AM — Start trekking into the forest
  • 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM — Search for gorillas (duration varies)
  • Once Located — Spend one magical hour observing the gorillas
  • Afternoon — Return to lodge for rest and relaxation

Once the gorillas are found, visitors spend one magical hour observing them from a safe distance while learning about their behavior, family dynamics, and conservation. Every trek is different, making each experience unique.
