Day-by-Day Itinerary
From Kigali to Akagera and on to Nyungwe Forest, this journey unfolds day by day. Follow the timeline below to see how each day leads into the next.
Your safari begins with a pick-up from Kigali International Airport or your hotel in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a brief city tour, including visits to key landmarks and cultural sites.
Afterward, depart for Akagera National Park, Rwanda's premier savannah park located in the eastern part of the country. The drive offers beautiful views of rolling hills, rural villages, and picturesque landscapes.
Upon arrival, check into your lodge and enjoy lunch before heading out for an afternoon game drive. Look out for elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and various bird species.
Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Rise early for a sunrise game drive when wildlife is most active. Explore different sections of the park in search of lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, impalas, topis, and other wildlife species.
After the game drive, enjoy lunch before embarking on a relaxing boat safari on Lake Ihema. The lake is famous for its large populations of hippos, crocodiles, and numerous water birds.
Following the boat excursion, begin your journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The scenic drive showcases Rwanda's beautiful tea plantations, hills, and rural communities.
Arrive in the evening, check in to your lodge, and relax.
Today begins with an early breakfast before heading into the rainforest for chimpanzee tracking. Nyungwe Forest is home to a significant population of chimpanzees and several other primate species.
Accompanied by experienced park rangers, trek through the forest in search of these fascinating primates. Once located, spend time observing their behavior and interactions in their natural habitat.
After lunch, enjoy the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk, suspended high above the forest floor. This thrilling experience offers spectacular views of the rainforest canopy, birds, butterflies, and wildlife below.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, enjoy a guided nature walk through Nyungwe Forest, where you can discover unique plant species, colorful birds, and stunning forest scenery.
Following the walk, begin the return journey to Kigali. En route, enjoy scenic views and photo opportunities across Rwanda's rolling hills.
Arrive in Kigali in the afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your memorable Rwanda safari.
